The Causes and Development of the Cold War 1945 - 1990 Essay Example for Free

The Causes and Development of the Cold War 1945 1990 EssayThe Cold War was not like any war that had occurred in the first place hand. It started from 1945 and went on for nearly one-half a century. The reason why this war was so special was the fact that it was not fought with weapons or armies but it was a war of words. It was more like a test of nerve, who could scare the other the most? There was a huge threat of a nuclear war between Russia and the west. It was not very brisk but the threat was still there. The cold War gets its name because of the cruel relations between the two sides it was extremely icy and cruel. The war all(a) started disc all over because of each nation losing their trust in each other after the Second World War. Russia had reasons to mistrust the west because Russia had been invaded by Germany inn 1914 and the west conjugate them to crush communism. Also Britain and France refused to join alliance with Russia in 1941, this then resulted in Germa ny invaded Russia. Suspicions were very high that the States was keeping secrets from them and they were right. America had finally invented the A-bomb, now they had this Russia had no importance to the United States whatsoever. But at the same time The U S were had their own suspicions of Russia as well. After the Second World War all the armies had removed their troops from Eastern europium, but Russia still kept theirs there. The U S knew Stalin was up to something, and he was Stalin took over all of the countries surrounding the Soviet Union. America was not happy about this at all. But Stalin promised that he would hold free elections in these countries and to not force communism upon them. He lied He knew that the only way the west could stop him from creating the countries in to communists was to go to war and he knew they would not want to do that because of the consequences they had suffered in the War. America was not reach for another war she was financially crippled.Wit h all the surrounding countries under his rule Stalin knew that if countries were to invade Russia they would boast to go through these first. This created a barrier it bought him time before anyone could reach Moscow to attack. Churchill described this blockade as the Iron Curtain. It separated Russia from the rest of the world. The U S decided they needed to take action, so they devised up a plan of Containment. This was a policy that meant that they would help any country to defend themselves if they were threatened by communism. America and the West were trying to make trustworthy that communism did not spread. Then came the Truman Doctrine. Turkey and Greece were having a lot of problems with the Russians. They had to defend themselves against Russia and its communist regimes. Britain was aiding them with weapons and supplies but an economically crippling winter in 1946 meant that they could not sustain to help no overnight. So the U S came in to help. The Truman Doctrine tha t was made was a policy of AmericasCommitment against communism. Any country facing a war against Communism would be helped by the U S.Then came another plan by the U S, this one was called the marshall Plan. A man called George Marshall who was the Secretary of State for the U S at the time of 1947 devised it. George Marshall pledged that the U S government would give Billions of dollars to the poorer countries in Europe. On the orthogonal this was looked upon as a very unselfish and kind gesture. But if looked upon closely you could see that it was just part of a scam. It was in Americas greatest interests to give Europe the specie. The reason why? To stop communism It did this because all the poorer countries were heavily stricken with poverty and hunger, the people were extremely dejected and needed something to look up to, more like a light at the end of the tunnel. To them with the help of Stalins propaganda schemes Communism looked like a way out of poverty. With the U S gi ving them money it made them happier, they had no more problems, thus giving America the edge on containing Communism away from vulnerable Countries. In 1962 a major instruction had been revealed. Russia was sending over nuclear missiles to Cuba. This meant that America was now under threat from nuclear attacks. But America quickly intervened they told Russia that if they were to send any more shipments over that they would take immediate action and destroy the vessels. Russia was not expecting that reply they assumed no action would take place. America set up blockades and arranged diffuse strikes over the ocean Khrushchev decided to deploy their ships back to Russia before another conflict took place. After seeing and hearing of these events taking place it must have been extremely frightening for the people in the world at this time. There was a huge threat of a nuclear war, which could have drastically destroy the world completely. Each countries nerve was tested to the limit, but luckily no one decided to retaliate in a major way. With the U S inventing new plans and technology the west made it extremely hard for Russia and Stalin to take over the world and make it communist. The Cold war changed the world forever, no longer would wars be fought in trenches and battlefields. They would be fought with words, and with just one switch of a button the whole world could be destroyed.

Four Basic Topologies Network And Summarize

Four Basic Topologies Network And SummarizeNowadays, there bring forth several(prenominal) types of interlock topologies with different characteristic, price and level, it was very important to choose a suitable enmeshing. Now we are going to discuss four basic net topologies Bus, Ring, Star and Mesh.Lets discuss bus topologies first, bus internet topologies is a oneness strain which theatrical role to consort to different puts between earnings, as it only pay back one channel to live the bus network for discourse, so the total capacity result impel to all the points averagely. When a point want to send instructions to an other(a) point, it go a centering announce a message to all the points thru wire and all the points allow see it but only the destination point will receive and return the message to the sender point, other points will non give any response.Bus network topologies are cheaper than other network topologies because it use less cable and materie and also the installation is easier than other topologies. But because it is a single cable, when there confirm many points draw to the device, it will tardily d witness the transmission speed and the total capacity. On the other hand, once the network have occupation, it cost many times to fix it as you have to check all the cable connection to find out the problems. Also in a bus topology, once a single connection failure, it will stop the passage between all points.(The image of the About.com guide)Second topologies which we are going to discuss is Ring topology. In a ring network, each fixateup connected to two users for communication purpose. It looks like a circle and the message start around the circle to each point use single direction. each(prenominal) node connect to its own cable to the Medium Attachment Unit (MAU). Ring network topology is balmy to install and reconfigure and also easy to add new node as only two connections need changes. However, Ring network is not too convenience for the user as the selective information have to pass through all the points forrader getting to the destination. For example, if one network have six user, when the A computer want to send message to F computer, it have to pass through B, C, D, E computer and then to F. And if one network failure, whole network will disable because it only have single pathway to transmit the selective information.(The image of the About.com guide )The third network topology is Star.Star network is one of the most usual computer network topologies. It features a central connection point call hub or concentrator (Bruce A Hallberg 2005) and it will radiate to other points. The characteristic of Star network is the hub or concentrator work as a central union to provide different route for signal send out to any two sites. Data on star network will send the message to hub or concentrator first before send to the destination point. Hub or concentrator works like a repeater for the data flow.In the star network topology, if one connection stoppage, only one node will lose the connection from this site and it wont be push to other networks. On the other hand, it will be easy to find out the problem as all network is obey to hub, so once the network out of service, mostly it must be some problem with the hub and the problem squirt be fix quickly instead of checking all the points. Further much, as hub is secure everything included add or remove devices, that means Star network is easy to install. If you want to add some new devices to the network, just need to connect the cable to hub and other computer will detect the devices and can use it. It save lots times to install the devices to all computers separately in the network. Moreover, hub can also be act as a backup file, once the network is not work, you can move to another computer and using the data from hub.Although star network is more stable than other network topology, but star network is more expensive a s it needs more wires to support the network. And because it is fully obey to hub, once there have many nodes, the network possibly slow down.(The image of the splashya Center for Instructional Technology College of Education, University of South Florid 1997.)Last network topology we have to share is Mesh.Mesh network is a network where all the nodes connected to each other with different ways, maybe single hop or multiple hops.In a mesh network, if one node or cable have problem occur, there will have another way to communicate with other node, it wont be halt the whole network. Mesh network will also default the laconic way automatically while the message moving on the mesh network, that means the data no need to pass through all the points before reach to destination, it save many times for transaction the data.Mesh network is a network which is not easy to interruption by connection problem as there have many possible patterns that can use. When one node failure to connect, m esh network will find another way to reach the destination easily.Mesh network separate to two similar types Full mesh and Partial mesh.Full mesh which every node will connect to each other so the network can provide best redundancy function. Once one of the nodes breakdowns, connection between the networks will be stronger under full mesh network because there have more possible route to reach to destination. Because of more wires need, so full mesh network is expensive than partial mesh network and it may also affect the set up procedure because of the complexity. For the economical reasons, some of the company will elect to use the partial mesh network. In partial mesh network, devices are only connects to a subsection node instead of all nodes. This may affect the entire network once the connection have problem because it only have one or two ways to reach the destination point. Although the communication between the networks is not as strong as full mesh network, but the cost i s cheaper than it, so nowadays partial mesh network is more popular than full mesh network.(The image of the network dictionary 2004)Physical communication media is a path that can let the electronic data move from one computer to another. And now will going to describe different physical communication media, for example Twisted-Pair cable, Coaxial Cable and Fiber-optic cable. The first cable we are going to talk about is Twisted-Pair cable.Twisted-pair cable which can be subdivided as unshielded twisted pair (UTP) and shielded twisted pair (s.t.p.) (Bruce A Hallberg 2005). Both UTP and STP have eight separate brown metal wires and cover by insulate material. Besides, each pair of wires was wound to each other.UTP and STP not only have similar structure and also have similar transmission technology. Even though STP has a better aegis interface and quality than UTP, but it cost more expensive and not easy to install.Using Twisted-pair cables advantage is its size is smaller than othe rs so that it will easy to install and it cost cheaper than Coaxial cable and Fiber-optic cable. On the other hand, the transmission signal is shorter than other communication media and the coverage area is only coulomb meters.Another cable we are going to talk about is Coaxial Cable.Coaxial cable is cover by 4 layers copper wire, insulation, copper mesh and cable jacket. Coaxial cable can aid 10-100 Mbps and it coverage 500 meters. (Scribd n.d.)The advantage of Coaxial Cable is it can run for a long exceed between network but use less power. The cost of Coaxial cable is cheaper than Fiber-optic cable and because of it use for many years, so it will be more popular. However, the size of Coaxial Cable not as thin as Twisted-pair cable, so it will be difficult to install and relatively the set up fee will be higher than Twisted-pair cable. The last one we have to talk about is Fiber-Optic cable.Fiber-Optic cable is made by narrow core and insulates material. It use the lights to transm ission the date. Most of the corporate network will use Fiber-optic cable as back bones to connect different network. The advantage of Fiber-optic cable is it has a higher data speed and the higher bandwidth is good for future development. But Fiber-optic cable is not quite flexible as it cannot curve, so it will be more difficult to install and the cost is the most expensive one.Different computers have its own different purpose, we are going to compare Microcomputers, Laptop computers, Minicomputers, mainframe computer computers and Supercomputers size, speed, processing capabilities, price and how many users can use at the same time.Types of computersMicrocomputersLaptop computersMinicomputersMainframe computersSupercomputerSizeFits on deskSmall and conveyableSize in between microcomputers and mainframe computersPartial room of apparatusFull room of apparatus promoteUp to 400 millionUp to 400 millionThousands to millionsMillionsMillions to billionsProcessing capabilities boy proce ssSurfing the webDatabase managementCalculationsEmail functionWord processSurfing the webDatabase managementCalculationsEmail functionWeb surfingCheck emailBasic productivity software(Daniel J.Gansle,2010)Processing data quickly and information storage, mostly using on airline system, back or insurance company.Process very large amounts of date, such as wear forecasting and government.Price of computersFrom $2500 up to $17000From $2500-up to $23000From $5000-$15000$300,000-several million dollarsSeveral million dollars and upSimultaneously connected usersFor individual use onlyFor individual use onlyTwo to four thousandHundred to thousandHundred to thousand

Limitations of Qualitative Research

Limitations of Qualitative ResearchDiscuss The Strengths And Limitations Of Quantitative And Qualitative entropy In Supporting K no.ledge Claims In The Hu composition Sciences And At Least One Other Area Of Knowledge.Theres no such(prenominal) thing as qualitative information.Everything is either 1 or 0(Fred Kerlinger)All look for ultimately has a qualitative grounding(Donald Campbell)Based on what Kerlinger and Campbell said, we cigarette see diverse move of views on decimal information and qualitative entropy. From Kerlinger points of view, he rejected qualitative data totally but Donald in the other hand said that the sanctioned of all research is qualitative data. One question arises is why do this cardinal contradict views occurred? Before answering the question, a depth understanding on how this two data works should be done at the first place. When we think about vicenary data, immediately our powerful photographic memories will mean everything that deals with num bers such as height, weight and many more. When the word qualitative data comes across our mind, we will think about something which are descriptive such as colours, beauty and so on. Qualitative data can be obtained by the qualitative research which may save the researcher from making conflicting assumptions as they proceed to design another stage of their work. What is the significant of this two data in world lives? Basically, quantitative data and qualitative data education are evidence to support ones aver. Without the existence of this two data, the validness of a research is unacceptable because of in that respect are no evidence to support the claims. By using our common sense, ask ourselves, can we immediately believe something is said to be true without any supporting data? The answer is exactly no. To answer the first question, the contradiction of views occur is due to the strengths and limitations of both data. Therefore, to get a clear view on how do these quantit ative and qualitative data are used as the supporting evidence, we shall discuss in this in the perspective of homophile science. Human science is about same universal principles, processes and patterns set up and underlie benignant activities in different fields such as psychology, social and cultural anthropology, economic and many more.Dealing with human being is neer exit to be an easy task because human are very complex. The complexities of the human being has lead to the a new branch of science which is human science in order to study the appearance of human. One of the behavior that is crucial to be passed on from one generation to other generation of human being is politeness. Reader Digest has came out with a ranking of the most courteous to the least courteous city in the its January 2008 article. smart York city, USA was crown to be the most courteous. On what basis does Readers Digest magazine came out with this ranking ?To establish this ranking, Readers Digest magazine team has set up a test called Politeness Test to come on the truth behind a statement made by Lynne Truss, an author of bestselling book Talk to the Hand which was 70 percent of US people are ruder now than they were 20 years ago. To measure politeness of a human being is a challenging task. However, there is always a way to measure it. The simplest way to measure this is by naturalistic observational method. To apply this method, the reporter of the Readers Digest magazine had set up three tests and one of them was document drops (who would help them retrieve a pile of accidently dropped papers) For consistency, Starbucks Coffee shop was chosen to be the venue of the test. By observing the behavior of the New Yorkers who entered the coffee shop, many perceptions were made by the reporters. For example, people who was willing to pick up the accidently dropped document was considered as people who had courtesy. The question is, to what extent this qualitative data obtained from the naturalistic observation method is sufficient enough to establish the ranking? The qualitative data is valid because the biggest strength of the method is it shows realistic situation. The world of qualitative data can be obtained because the observer cannot easily change or introduce a new stimuli into the situation. However, the major weakness of this method is the find of biasness of the observer. During the observation, the reporter of Readers Digest magazine might be influenced by emotion when observing the rudeness of people. Therefore, this will lead to the inability to draw a invent conclusion of the observation. However, in order to make the politeness test more valid, we need a set of quantitative data to support the qualitative data. The quantitative data can be obtained by establishing a corelational research. This research is structured by introducing two multivariates and how they interrelated. Therefore a statistical model is carried out to prove the relat ion between two variables. For example, let the variables be number of who lift up the file and the level of courtesy and test whether they are independent or dependent for each sample taken from a sample population of New Yorkers. The statistics data in forms of percentage will give a well-set base to support the Readers Digest Politeness Test. Since politeness is a very subjective matter, this quantitative data also cannot stand alone. Hence both data are needed in supporting this claim.2008 is the year where economic crisis hit the world. The developed countries were facing hard times because of the many line had to shut down feather because of the stagnant issue forthing of demand since people controlled the expenses. In the economy cycle, the economist predicted that recession will hit for eleven months in ten years. However, this prediction is inexact because recent recession hit economy only in five months. This occur because economist also is in anticipation and future is uncertainties. During economic recession, exports and imports of business are slowed down and the country will experience high rate of unemployment. For the poor country, the recession gave a big impact such as gain in the rate of poverty since manylabors were dismissed. From physicality aspect, we can observe how thin the people in the poor country when economic recession hits the world. However, this qualitative data is not enough to support the economy recession. Therefore, in order to make the claim more firm, quantitative data must be obtained from example, correlativity method where two variables which are demand and try are used. The correlation between both variables shows a clear picture of the worlds economy. The lower the demand, the lower the supply implies that demand is directly proportional supply. This will lead to reasoning part to explain why the demand is falling or rising. So things will fall in the right place the cause has been justified by reasoning.Nowa days, we have seen the emergence of the personality test on the net. Most of the current personality theories rival on the identification and measurement of the specific personality. (Zuckerman, Eysenck , Eysenck 1978 ). Lets look at personality test which is more valid. For example, Dr Campbell, a researcher on the human behavior from University of myocardial infarct carried out a personality research which ion introversion and extroversion. People might say it is easy to secernate those who are introverts and extroverts ground on the way they carry with the society. Yes, it is true that we can distinguish the introverts and extroverts by observing their communication skill, confidence level, the way they walk and so on. People can easily percept others based on their attitude and this kind of attitude is taken as qualitative data .Again, there might be biasness in judging people. Therefore, Dr Campbell used suppositional treatments of introversion and extroversion in order t o support the qualitative data. He applied the corelational method. He came out with two variables introversion/extroversion and experience want. A sample of his college students were given a personality scale wish measures the relationship of the variables. According to the theory, extroverts should seek for outside stimulation whilst the introverts seek the inner stimulation. To get word the relationships, he used Eysenck Personality Inventory and Zuckermans sensation seeking scales in order to plot the data. From there, a quantitative data can be obtained to distinguish to support the qualitative data. However, the test is too objective and there might be possibilities that the sample of college students did not do the test seriously.Art demands a diminutive thinking in order for us not to be easily swept away along unthinkingly into its pleasures or reject it as a knowledge . In creating the feelings and beliefs, the arts certainly do not avoid knowledge claims. For example, Leonardos famous Vitruvian man drawing represents standard physicality of a human being. What is meant by standard physicality of human being? From observation method, we know a normal human being will have two hands, two legs a head and so forth. Human being is a unique creature and hence we have to explore the entire human being by using our critical and creative thinking. This Vitruvianman drawing has all characteristics of a normal human being. This contributes to the qualitative data. Different human being has different lengths of hands, legs and so on. Does this reason enough to prove the uniqueness of a human being? Leonardo Da Vinci was the first person who look the uniqueness of from different angle. The Vitruvian man drawing portrays the standard proportion of human body. It was the version produced by Leonardo Da Vinci, who has a vast knowledge of both anatomy and geometry made him unambiguously suited to the task. Leonardos famous drawings of the Vitruvian proportions o f a mans body first standing inscribed in a square and then with feet and arms outspread inscribed in a circle . By using logic ,he provides the simplest illustrations on shifting the center of the magnitude without a corresponding change of the centre of the normal sombreness. This remains passing through the central line from the pit of the throat through the umbilicus and pubis between the legs. Leonardo repeatedly distinguishes these two different centers of a body, which is the centers of magnitude and gravity (Keele 252). The fundamental measure of 24 palms comes directly from Vitruvius definition of human height being 4 cubits or 24 palms. This quantitative data is a strong evidence to support the claim that human beings are unique. Sometimes the art themselves are not the truth but it leads us to the truth.Dancing is a part of art. It is indisputable dancing has its way of brightening up the persons day. From the aspect of health, dancing gives a significant impact in reduc ing judge and depression. For example, a person enters a dancing studio after facing a problem will have a brighter smile after outlet out of the studio. To determine whether our perception is true, we can carry out an interview in order to obtain self report from that particular person. Many questions can be asked such as how do you feel after dancing?and so forth. From his response, we come out with perception that he is stress free. However, this method is going to give us a weak qualitative data in order to support the claim. The interviewer might be bias during the interview session. Therefore, to justify the claim that dancing contributes in reducing stress and depression, an experiment can be carried out. The strength of the method is we have full authority in controlling our variables. For example, our variable is number of dance and the number of anti depressant pills taken. First of all, a sample of people who come problematic background has to be chosen. The hypothesis is, the greater number of dancing, the lower number anti depressant pills are being consumed. A statistical data can be obtained to support the claim. Hence, the validity of the of the claim saying that dancing can reduce stress is justifiable.Based on the justification above, I concluded that qualitative data and quantitative data play important roles on supporting the knowledge claims in human science and art. Some of the claims required both qualitative and quantitative data in order to support the claims. Although both of data have their own strengths and limitations, they are complementary each other in order to justify the every single(a) things and events that occurs in our lives. I respect both views from Fred Kerlinger and Donald Campbell because both of the views are correct and applicable in our daily lives. There is no right or impose on _or_ oppress on both views. It depends on situation in order to use qualitative data or quantitative data to support our knowledge cl aims.Referenceswriting.colostate.edu/guides/research/observe/com2d3.cfm Qualitative vs Quantitative Researchwriting.colostate.edu/guides/research/observe/com2d3.cfm Qualitative vs Quantitative ResearchToby Murcott Alternative medicine on trial?2005New YorkMacmillan(page 97)www.rd.com/living-healthy/good/article27599-2.htmlRichard S.LehmanStatistic innovation in the Behavioral Sciences1991Wadsworth Publishing Company,California(page 30)www.rd.com/living-healthy/good/article27599-2.htmlRichard S.LehmanStatistic Design in the Behavioral Sciences1991Wadsworth Publishing Company,California(page30)Richard S.LehmanStatistic Design in the Behavioral Sciences1991Wadsworth Publishing Company,California(page30)Richard S.LehmanStatistic Design in the Behavioral Sciences1991Wadsworth Publishing Company,California(page 28)Economics Course CompanionRichard S.LehmanStatistic Design in the Behavioral Sciences1991Wadsworth Publishing Company,California(page 20)Richard S.LehmanStatistic Design in the Behavioral Sciences1991Wadsworth Publishing Company,California(page 20) surmise of Knowledge Course companionhttp//leonardodavinci.stanford.edu/submissions/clabaugh/history/leonardo.htmlhttp//leonardodavinci.stanford.edu/submissions/clabaugh/history/leonardo.htmlhttp//www.aiwaz.net/vitruvian-man/a6

Intersectionality in Third-wave Feminism

Intersectionality in Third-wave feminismIntersectionality as the Main Concept of Third-wave feminist movementThird-wave feminism which follows Second-wave of Feminist apparent motion began in the 1990s with the mixture of disgruntled, and shy womens rightists, and feminists born into the human being where feminism had already existed. The movement of third-wave feminism has a little focus on laws or political processes, further more on a persons identity. This wave of feminism is the most diverse and individualistic feminist wave society have ever seen. It is considered to be a worldwide feminist wave because its main idea is to show the world that women are of umteen colors, religions, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds. First two waves of feminism have do so many changes in distinct aspects of our life. Besides the right to vote, the right to get an education, and the right to work, women, who lived during third wave of feminist, required to change the stereotypes and la nguage that was utilise to describe a woman. Third-wave feminists had a desire to challenge or avoid the assumption that there is a universal female identity and everywhere-emphasizing of the experience of the upper-middle word form dust coat women. What is most important is that the roots of Intersectional Feminism were born together with third-wave feminism. Intersectional feminism is much more than the Feminism itself because it is an understanding of how womens overlapping identities- including race, sort ethnicity, and sexual orientation- impact the way they experience oppression and discrimination. (Dastagir)Rebecca Solnit is an author of the book Men explain things to me who touches the conundrum of marginalizing women by silencing them and talks ab step up consequences that can communicate female because of this tailor. She ends on a serious note- because the ultimate problem is the silencing of women who have something to say, including those saying things like, Hes trying to kill me (Solnit) Rebecca Solnit states that men explain things to me, and incompatible women, whether or not they know what theyre talking about. It is a presumption that leases it hard, at times, for any woman in any field that keeps women from speaking up and from being heard when they dare that crushes young women into silence by indicating, the way harassment on the street does, that this is not their world. It trains us in self-doubt and self-limitation vindicatory as it exercises mens unsupported overconfidence. (Solnit) Violence is one way to silence pot, to deny their voice and their credibility, to assert womens right to control over their right to exist. Rebecca Solnit says that things gotten better today compared to what was happening 30 years ago. This war wont end in my lifetime. I am still struggle it, for myself certainly, notwithstanding also for all those younger women who have something to say, in the hope that they forget get to say it. (Solnit) Third Wave feminism is a feminist wave that attends todeal with race, racism, and the experience of nonwhite women who do not freeequal in our society. Intersectionality, therefore, has an intense focus onidentity and particularly on racial and ethnic identity. The common positionsare We are here for women of color, trans people, lesbian, gay and bi peopleand the differently abled and Listen to women, listen to people of color. (Pluckrose)A big issue is that intersectionalitybecomes unreachable to even more people. As Mariana Ortega mentions in herarticle White Feminism and Women of Color the list of respected women ofcolor is so short. In her evidence, she tries to figure out the reason ofintersectionality, asking so many questions, such as Why is it that feministsstill scramble to fill out the spot for the respected, well-knownwoman-of-color, speaker that will bring in a crowd? Why is it that there is merely a small percentage of books and articles written by women of color in t he increase lists of feminist publications? Why is it that I or any of the few womenof color who are involved in feminist work could write lists of all theexperiences that make us invisible, misunderstood, homogenized, and victimizedwhile dealing with white feminists. (Ortega) Women of color are marginalizedin many ways and different aspects. Tobe intersectional is to focus on many different categories of marginalizedidentity at once, be convinced that they are marginalized and be concernedabout them all. To expand this statement more, marginalize means to pushpeople to the edge of the society not allowing them a place within it. Asociety that labels an outside the norm- weird, scary, hateful, or useless-marginalize those people, edging them out. Women of color are corking example ofmarginalized people who are pushed away from the rest of society, are oppressed, and discriminated just because of their color, race, religion, and differentfactors. White Feminism is usedto describe th e feminist movement that only focuses on white and straightwomen. Usually, their fight focuses on rape culture, equal pay, and diminishingpatriarchy. White feminists have reached success in different aspects for whitewomen, but what about women of color? It is still problematic because whitefeminists refuse to accept women of color, women with disabilities, and womenwho are not in a good body form. As a matter of fact, they used to ignore theirissues and their identities as well. Although they are trying to close the wagegap between men and women, they do not recognize that Latina and nigrify womenearn even less than white women do. Gloria Steinem is a famous AmericanFeminist, who became nationally recognized as a leader and a spokeswoman forthe feminist movement in the late 1960s. Steinem does not recognize such thingas White Feminism. She was adamant about the fact that white feminism as aterm has no discourse about grammatical gender inequality. (Zarya) As Steinem mentioned inon e of her interviews, there is no such thing as white feminism. If you callit white, its not feminism. It either includes all women, or its notfeminism, she said. (Zarya) We are not allowed to forget that basically blackwomen were the major force of the feminist movement, particularly during the1970s. For this reason, and many others, white feminism has no place in currentsociety and should be eliminated as soon as possible. In the face of callsfor a more intersectional feminism, there are even White feminists who claimthe whole concept of intersectionality is just academic jargon that doesntconnect with the real world. Many people do not really understand what isWhite Feminism. Everyday feminism Magazine defines White Feminism as a set ofbeliefs that allows for the exclusion of issues that specifically affect womenof color. It is one size-fits all feminism, where middle class White womenare the mold that others must fit. It is a method of practicing feminism, notan indictment of ev ery individual White feminism, everywhere, always.(Uwujaren) White Feminism marginalize women of color that causes them tovariety of negative effects. For example, White Feminism refuses to digfeminists of color an ability to discuss their biggest issue, such as racialinequality which relates to gender inequality. It keeps reminding society thatbeauty standard in our culture is to be thin, blonde, and white. In addition ofexcluding women of color, it excludes women who are not straight or well-builtas well. White Feminists are also knownas women of privilege in our society. Big issue is that sometimes they donteven realize that they are excluding other marginalized groups. This is not anexcuse for their behavior. Everyone should agree that it is a chance for womenof color to honestly pick out feminists of privilege how their lack of self-awarenessaffects other women, such as Black or Latin women. Existing problem could bechanged by helping each other to recognize that women of dif ferent races, sexual orientations, and economic class experience gender inequalitydifferently. People should be recognized and acknowledged correspond to theirskills, knowledges, contributions, and talents, not according to their sex, skin color, or appearance. Everyone can become a better feminist if he willchange this point in his head and mind. Maria Lugones is anArgentine feminist philosopher, also an author of Peregrinajes/Pilgrimages Theorizing Coalition Against MultipleOppressions book where she is taking readers through her understanding ofwhite/Angla feminist theories, and is trying to answer the question What isthe problem of difference between white women and women of color, and howdoes the problem of difference affect non-white female? Lugones states that womenof color always knew that white women and women of color were different white womenall knew that they were different from women of color. White women neverconsidered the difference important, because they did not re ally notice us.(Lugones) White women used to simple and straightforwardly ignore thedifference. But U.S. women of color heard and verbalized an attack on whiteracism. Racist feminism does not see the violence done to women of color bydenying that they are women. In her essay, Lugones compares women of color tothe beings with a peculiar lack of substance or lack of credibility, or toofrightening and intimidating, too dramatic, with too much or too little position all out of proportion, not fully real. (Lungones)Third wave feminism respects not only differences between women based on race, color, religion, and economic standing, but also makes allowance for different identities within a single person. Third-wave feminism responds to the category of women debates of the late 1980s and early 1990s that began with a critique of the game wave contention that women share something in common as women a common gender identity and set of experiences. The concept of woman and experiences are intimately connected within the second and, along with personal politics, form the three core concepts of that movement. Third-wave feminists rightly reject the universalist claim that all women share a set of common experiences, but they do not discard the concept of experience altogether. Women still look to personal experiences to provide knowledge about how the world operates and trouble dominant narratives about how things should be. Many third-wave stories strive to demonstrate the gaps between dominant discourses and the reality of womens lives. Some third-wavers use their own experiences growing up in interracial or multicultural families to illustrate how the politics of race, class, and gender play out in peoples lives. For example, Cristina Tzintzun writes, I solicitude about dating whites, especially white menI see what a white man did to my beautiful, brown, Mexican mother. He colonized her. (Snyder) What Snyder states in his essay has direct connection with Rebecca Solnits book which also raises the problem of marginalized women and mens unfair attitude to women. Both first and second-wave feminists have made bulky contributions to the history of feminist movement but for third-wavers there were still lots of things to do and improve. Even though many laws were designed to protect women from rape, sexual harassment, gender discrimination, wage disparity, domestic violence, and other atrocities, women were still marginalized in the way of silencing. The ultimate problem that was present during third-wave feminism is silencing of women who have something to say. Womens voices are as nonuple and diverse as our cultural and personal histories, the meaning of silence- being unwilling or uneffective to speak- can be seen as the complex of issues for women that results in different negative concepts. Anthropologist Susan Gal points out that womens historians, similarly, have justified their work on the basis of recapturing the silence past In this writing, silence is generally deplored as a symbol of passivity and powerlessness those who are denied speech cannot make their experience known and thus cannot influence the course of their lives or history. (Mahoney) Feeling unable or unwilling to speak, and feeling bad about it, conveys the expectation that silence is the sign of inauthenticity, of failure to be a real.Work Cited Dastagir, Alai E. Web Page Analysis Essay -- Web Design Analysis Essays Papers

Web Page AnalysisWhile browsing the enormous variety of commits and legal residence paginates on the World Wide Web, it is difficult to comp atomic number 18 and contrast items that do not have anything in common. How can we say the Wall Street daybook page is better than Joes Page of Craziness? Therefore the first step in critiquing mesh pages is by determining their purpose. The goal of a web page can vary from presenting factual information such as the CIA Page, or displaying ones own computer generated art. Hence, the only way to judge a page is by examining what it tries to accomplish, and how it achieves its goal.Once the objective of the page is established, three simple criteria can be used to determine its net worth (pun not intended...hehehe). First of all, one moldiness ask Does it complete its goal? Does it present the information about SPAM accurately, or does it successfully present original artworks? Second, How effective is its presentation? This criteria can be divided into two parts first, how well written the textual parts describe the subject, and second, how the graphical parts are used to support the topic. The main areas of graphical representation would be the use of a background, the use of color to emphasize important points, and the use of images to decorate and support the main topic. A good web page should include background on the author and descriptions of the purpose. In addition, the page should be organized in a logical manner in which anyone would be able to find their information quickly and easily. Finally, one must determine how much effort and time was invested in developing the page. Obviously, a UT students substructure page can not compare in complexity or size to the Silicon Graphics page. Thus, by estimat... ...site qualifies as a good site due to its success at accomplishing its objective, and the great amount of work done in shaping his web site. However, with the exception of the title headers, the site is visually unappealing. With a little work, and a little artistic talent, the graphics could be used more functionally in supporting his key ideas and links. In general, the site is to a higher place average, but has potential to rank among the top web sites on the net. Works CitedAlfred Hitchcock - The Master of Suspense --http//nextdch.mty.itesm.mx/plopezg/Kaplan/Hitchcock.htmlThis site describes the work, background, and trivial information about Alfred Hitchcock. The graphics are deficient, but the information was interesting. There are many pages dealing with the movies hes made, and many pages dealing with fun trivia, such as cameo or famous quotes.

Smile Molds :: essays research papers

Slime MoldsThere are over 500 diverse types of slime molds, or myxomycetes as the scientific world c totallys them. Slime molds have been difficult to classify for years do to the fact that they exhibit characteristics of twain fungi and animals. In the feeding stage, the slime molds moves about as a mass of protoplasm(the plasmodium)feeding on bacteria, spores, and other organic matter, much like an amoeba does. When conditions constitute un palmy , the plasmodium changes, taking on the appearance of a fungus. There are two major types of slime molds in the Protist Kingdom. The first lovable are the Plasmodial slime molds or true slime molds. They are a rather large atomic number 53d celled mass with thousands and thousands of nuclei called a plasmodium. They form when individual flagellated cells cumulate together in a bunch and fuse. This results in one large cytoplasm. The second kind of slime mold spends most of its life as single celled organism that lives alone. It is a lso known in the scientific world as acrasiomycetes. They release of a chemical signal, gather together, and become a mass called a pseudoplasmodia and eventually multicellular slug. They have unalike reproductive delegacy and are often separated from plasmodial by scientist. Many kinds of slime molds reproduce by means on spores. The spores drift along in the wind or are carried about by animals and insects much like seeds are. Also, like seeds the spores wait until conditions are favorable before developing. The spore are unable to move on there own. If smile molds reproduced sexually they may be considered to be an Animal instead of an Protist. However, not all slime molds reproduce exactly the same way.The slime mold has a simple environment. They can be found in cool, damp places were they can considerably find food. Most species that feed on decaying organic matter, bacteria, protozoa, and other minute organisms, which they engulfs and digests. They may live on plants, but do not try to extinguish the plant to eat. They do not mean to harm the plant, although they sometimes smother the plant in which they are living on by not allowing cheerfulness light reach the leaves.A slime mold may be either bright colored or inconspicuous. They come in many different shapes and forms. They can be found in different sizes ranging from less than an inch to several feet wide. They also come in many different colors.

The Glass Menagerie :: essays research papers

Glass Menagerie is a collection of fragile glass animal figurines. Fragile is the word which describes the family in the story. From the mother which sees no reality with a cripple daughter that she sees beautiful to a son that wants out but is also Amandas sole provider. The daughter is such that fragile is to harsh a word. Her life buried in glass animals and a victrola, she is a fragile as that unicorn that breaks in scene four. Tom is full of contradiction. On the one hand, he reads literature, writes poetry, and dreams of escape, adventure, and higher things. On the other hand, he seems completely bound to the petty world of the Wingfield household. One of the key things of the play is how it relates to W under the weatheriams life with the mixture of illusions and reality. All of the characters take care to be connected in some way to members of his family. The mother, Amanda Wingfield, shares similarities with Williams mother, a harsh woman who had been known of being a sout hern belle and living a lordly life. Laura Wingfield, her daughter, is similar to Williams sister, Rose. Laura is shy and uneasy to the show up of being socially unable. As a result of her mothers nagging, Lauras slight limp is exaggerated in her mind to the point where she believes herself crippled. Amandas illusion or what she wanted to see was that Laura was beautiful and had many male callers. Williams sister was also mentally unstable, and spent most of her life in a mental institution. The plays protagonist Tom Wingfield, is very similar to Williams himself. For most of his life, Williams felt guilty about leaving his mentally ill sister on her own, to nearly die from a botched lobotomy. In the play, Tom feels as if he is betraying his sister by leaving home, just deal his father did. Some critics have thought that Tom is a homosexual (just as Williams was). Tom is a writer working a crappy line of products in a shoe factory. Which Williams also worked a shoe factory for th ree years which lead to a minor nervous break down. turn he works at this factory, Tom actually writes poetry. For Toms adventure and illusions he would spend all hours of the night at the movies. Williams real fix was Thomas, so there is clearly a connection between Tom in the play and Williams himself.
